Hello Girls and Boys, up for auction is a complete 1929 AC Gilbert No 7 Steam Shovel Set. This set has been inventoried according to Greenberg’s Guide to Erector Sets (Ref. 1) and the Erector Set Inventories (Ref. 2) by Bruce Hansen as made available by The A. C. Gilbert Heritage Society. According to the inventory, this set is complete with the exception of one of the two carboard parts boxes (one parts box is included with this set). Other carboard or other containers, trays, inserts, linings that may have originally supplied are not supplied with this auction and are missing. Some of the parts are from years before or after 1929.This set was purchased by cbzander in 2000 as a “1929 No. 7”. The actual year has not been confirmed but this set has been inventoried per that year. Per review of the Erector Set Galleries at
The A.C. Gilbert Heritage Society
, the box appears to be form 1928 as it does not have wooden dividers and the interior is entirely open.
A detailed 27 minute video of entire set is uploaded to YouTube and can be found with this link (

) to the video titled “
1929 AC Gilbert Erector No. 7 Steam Shovel Set”
. The video provides for an up close in focus scan of all parts to allow discerning collector to ascertain part finish and relative year if not actually original for the set. Please pardon the length but it does accomplish intent of providing a significant amount of detail a bidder could want.
Twenty-four photos detailing the state of and inventory of this set are uploaded to eBay. This No. 7 set has so many parts to detail that all bidders are encouraged to view the two YouTube videos associated this this auction.
Still photos detailing every page of the manual are published in a short two minute 23 second to allow potential bidders to ascertain condition. Find said YouTube vid with this link (

). The video is the
only detail
of the manual that is included with this auction other than this description. The manual has two original staples and three newer staples securing pages.
P58 Motor runs (please see referenced video). It was hooked up to 12 volts (two 6 volts in series) and that was sufficient to bump motor and run it. 6 volts would not get the motor to run. I’m not familiar with motors or the original operation of this motor and cannot comment further that detail shown in the video.
One original cardboard parts box is included with this set. One aftermarket glass jar is included to contain parts.
Quantity of nuts and screws provided with the set matches inventory. Some nuts and screws appear to be original and some are replacement. The video shows every nut and screw to allow bidder to gain understanding what this set includes.
All appropriate parts come with 6-32 set screws.
Part C, 10” Girders (QTY = 32). 19 Part C are so called “Old Style” with curved triangle at the end and 13 Part C are “New Style” with straight triangle at the end.
The following additional parts were recent replacements purchased from Joel Perlin to make this set complete. All other parts were obtained with original cbzander purchase as-is in 2000. Part AH Small Triangle (qty = 4), Part AL, Collar, formed one side (qty = 1), Part AM Special Pulley (qty = 2), Part DP, 12” Angle Girder (qty =2)
