    Description

    Post War Chinese Stamps
There were three periods of time that definitive stamps were issued after the end of World War II. The first is the Chinese National Currency period from 1945-early 1948. These stamps can be identified by the many overprints that were used. There are the "Box at top", the "Box at bottom, and various overprinted
original issues. They are actually overprinted on only a small number of prewar sets. Identify the basic stamp first, then the type of overprint (oval or square box at bottom or top). What makes these fun, other than the unlisted varieties, is the challenge of finding them. All are relatively scarce and many are very hard to find. One comment from a buyer recently was, "I just dropped 00 for a set of dowagers but I cannot find this one CNC definitive that catalogs only 25 cents!." The artificially deflated catalog values mean that no one sells these individual gems....anywhere. This would be understandable if a lack of a collector base were the norm (like some of the central and south american countries) but China has a HUGE collector base compared to the number of stamps that have survived
the last 80 years. take a look on ebay and see if you can find an individual stamp from Scott 647 to 721. Definitely an enjoyable hunt for these inglorious gems.
