US Divers AQUAMATIC SCUBA REGULATOR Owner's Manual - New Publication - History & Restoration!
This book does not exist! That is, to the best of my knowledge, there is no Aquamatic Owner's Manual.
So, I made one.
The US Divers Aquamatic was nothing special. It was not a great breathing regulator. It had several unique features that were not really beneficial.
But, it was one of the very first single hose regulators made and the first one for US Divers.
And it was cheap!
From a vintage diver's point of view, it is interesting for both of these reasons and also because for some reason, it was popular.
Original, good working Aquamatics are impossible to find for good reason, which is discussed in this booklet.
Also, Aquamatics are very hard to restore (most vintage collectors will say impossible) for good reason, which is also explained in this booklet.
This 16 page booklet begins with a detailed history of the Aquamatic.
All 3 Aquamatic models, sold under 2 different brand names, with their individual features are described with pictures.
Following that is a step-by-step disassembly & assembly of both the 1st and the 2nd stages, also with pictures.
And lastly is a method by which one can make their own Aquamatic fully functional.
All of the information is excellent. Even vintage divers who are familiar with the Aquamatic will learn something - Guaranteed!
It took a lot of time & effort to gather the information & pictures for this manual. The printing & assembly is a real nuisance.
But I enjoyed the work. The Aquamatic was my first regulator in 1962. I still have it. A picture of me using my Aquamatic in 1965 is in the book.
I'm pretty sure that any vintage diver or scuba collector or scuba museum would enjoy reading it, learning about the Aquamatic and maybe restoring one.
NOTE: while the Aquamatic was used on the TV series SEA HUNT, I did not consult Mike Nelson while writing this book!!
